Be sure to respond directly to all parts of the question. All papers must include in-body text citations AND a bibliography.
How do media organizations, and the journalists and editors who work for them, decide to cover political and policy news? In what ways can elected officials and others in government and politics try to influence or change what issues or problems get covered?
Essays should be at a minimum be three typed pages in length (double-spaced and in 12pt Times New Roman font). The first paragraph should be an introduction, the bulk of the paragraphs after that should directly address the two parts of the question in detail. Make sure you re-read the question so that your answer directly addresses the prompt and provides your point of view reinforced by the reading material. All the ideas or concepts you insert into the essay that is attributed to the textbook or other sources must be cited. These papers will be graded according to the soundness and intellectual rigor of their argument, their use of relevant class material (both from reading and lecture), and the quality of their written expression.
You are expected to use the textbook (see Media chapter) and other sources to respond to the questions. CITATIONS and a BIBLIOGRAPHY is REQUIRED for all essays. There are numerous citation guides on the library page and through the writing center.
