Official Instructions:
The Why: Self-reflect on what you are learning during this week and how this may impact your social work practice. Worth 10 points
Task: In at least one page and no more than two pages
Provide a short paragraph reflecting over what you read, watched, or listened to.
While reading the material were you aware of any of those preconceived beliefs to come to mind. Discuss the experience. Discuss what you found most significant about the week’s topic and how will that impact your work with clients in the future. Chapter 14 – Treating the partners of individuals with SUD. This chapter starts by looking at some the common myths related to partners of individuals with SUD. Particularly looking at how traditional societal norms impact the perceptions of marriage and gender roles specifically in relation to one partner’s use of a substance. There is discussion of some of the common terms that is often used when working with couples and a brief overview of some treatment approaches. Chapter 15 – Dynamics and Treatment Issues with children of individuals with SUD. The author discusses that children of substance abusing parents are at a high risk of experiencing physical, sexual, and/or emotional abuse. As well as witnessing violence toward a family member. There is a discussion of the ACE study which I will include the self-assessment in your module this week. There is several case examples throughout this chapter to help relate the material. Pay special attention to the discussion of countertransference issues. This can assist us in understanding why a client may be reacting to our attempts to understand their experiences. I’ve attached the textbook as well as any other relevant content. We are covering chapter 14 and 15. Please reach out if you have any questions.
