In a Narrow Grave Essay Rubric 
Directions:
The student will write a 3-5 page essay over the collection of essays In a Narrow Grave.  Students must use at least 3 essays from the volume.  The student must find a theme that runs through all three of them to explain how the developments of the twentieth century are connected to larger national historical developments. That is, how is Texas central to understanding the dramatic changes in U.S. history or how can U.S. history be understood through Texas.  The student will use information from the collection, lectures, and possibly outside academic sources (not required, but if used should be peer-reviewed academic sources).  The student will choose how they would like to address the topic. 
 
 
Purpose of assignment: to master content of material covered in class readings and make critical and original analytical connections. The students will take information from the book (and possibly other sources) and analyze, synthesize, and apply that information.  
 
 
Requirements:3-5 page double-spaced paper
1” margins12 point Times New Roman
Use at least 3 essays from In a Narrow Grave
Cite In a Narrow Grave a minimum of four times.
