Assessment Descriiption
The purpose of this assignment is to compare your group’s proposed mitigation strategies for Anytown community to those of your location’s jurisdiction. Review your local jurisdiction’s county or state hazard mitigation plan. For example, if you are a resident of Maricopa County, Arizona, you can reference the “Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan” for Maricopa County, located in the Class Resources.
After evaluating Anytown and your local jurisdiction, you have identified hazards, threats, and vulnerabilities that should be of concern to an emergency planner. Next, develop a PowerPoint presentation (15-20 slides) to deliver your assessment of these threats and to propose strategies that will increase safety and maintain community health and wellness. Include the following, and compare your proposed Anytown mitigation plan to the plan from your local jurisdiction:
A brief profile of Anytown and your local jurisdiction.
A brief overview of the ideal planning team.
An overview of the major hazards that pose a threat to the Anytown community.
Areas of vulnerability within the community. Explain the dimensions of these vulnerabilities. Why are they at risk from the hazards identified above?
Mitigation strategies for addressing the threats from the hazards identified above. How can the community better prepare to deal with these hazards in both the short and long term?
An explanation of technology available to assist with the mitigation plan. How can technology assist with the response and recovery efforts?
Potential methods for maintaining, evaluating, and modifying the strategies suggested based on the risk and vulnerability assessment. How will the community determine if the mitigation plan is still relevant or needs modifications?
While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
